2009 Was a Year of Growth
We were able to finish the third unit at Dyetski Dom.  There are now 28 children living in these three Christian homes.  And, this is a building built by the Soviet Union as a kindergarten.  Children were to begin their Communist-Atheist indoctrination here!

A second transitional living home was added in October.  There are now seven teens in these two homes who are too old for the state institutions but not ready for life on their own.  All seven are still in school.

We continue to work with hospitals in Simferopol and Sevastopol.  In addition to providing basics (food, medicine and diapers), we were able to make some physical improvements in both locations.

For the second year in a row, we received donations from over 170 individuals and organizations.

Mulberry Short-term Team Needs:

Parent Training/Encouragement-
Our foster parents are dealing with large blended families, often with children who have physical or emotional challenges. Any training in parenting skills is well received. Plus, the encouragement is always greatly appreciated.

Dealing with Street Children-
The Project Sasha staff is counseling with children who may be addicted to alcohol, glue or other drugs. The children are basically living a life without rules. Training on dealing with these situations will be helpful.

Commercial Training-

One big challenge in counseling children to end a life of petty crime is to offer a legitimate means of earning money. These street children need training in basic work skills, or marketable technical skills. This could include identifying and planning a small business.

Vacation Bible School-

Between foster families and street children, Mulberry is touching about one hundred children at any one time. VBS activities can range from crafts to field trips to the beach. Lessons can be prepared for almost any age group.  Of course, special talents like music, juggling or clowning are a big plus.

Light Construction-

The list of projects is almost endless and can be tailored to each team’s skill level. Projects could include cleaning, painting, hanging wallpaper, plastering, installing lighting or plumbing fixtures, grounds keeping or carpentry.
